7 Best Beaches in Santorini

There's more to the beautiful Greek island of Santorini than just its gorgeous beaches. But let's be honest: they are certainly part of the attraction. As small as this island is, it is blessed with some of the most perfect and photogenic beaches you're ever likely to see. And with the abundant sunshine this part of Greece experiences, the beaches of Santorini are a year-round destination for millions of visitors every year.

Drop off your bags at a Santorini luggage storage, grab your swimsuit and towel, and head to some of these stunning locations. If your idea of a good vacation is sun, sand, and crystal-clear turquoise waves, you've come to the right place.

Kamari

The most famous and busiest beach on the island, Kamari has it all. From sun loungers and parasols to a wide range of water sports, there's plenty to keep you occupied. This is also the place to be if you want to enjoy some nightlife, with a selection of bars and clubs open until the early hours.

If you're looking for an unspoiled wilderness, this isn't it. But it is a great beach if you want to enjoy services at the same time as the scenery. It's also a good choice for families since you'll find bathrooms, changing rooms, sun loungers, and all the other amenities you need.

Perissa and Perivolos

South of Kamari is the long black sandy beach of Perissa, which stretches for over six kilometres. This is a great choice if you're looking for a more low-key atmosphere, but with all the services and amenities you could want.

There's plenty of room on the sand to sunbathe or play games, and there are several bars and restaurants along the beach if you get hungry or thirsty. Water sports are also available, including jet skiing, banana boat rides, and parasailing.

If you want to avoid the crowds but don't mind walking a bit further, head to Perivolos Beach. It's basically an extension of Perissa but with fewer people and more space to relax.

Monolithos

If you're looking for a quiet and secluded beach, Monolithos Beach is the place for you. This small cove is located on the south coast of Santorini, away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy areas.

It's a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and just relaxing in peace. There are also a few restaurants and cafes if you need to refuel. Or you can bring your own food and drinks and enjoy a picnic on the sand. Just be sure to pack out what you bring in to keep this beach beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

Red Beach

One of the most unique and beautiful beaches on Santorini, Red Beach gets its name from the red and black lava rocks that surround it. The contrast between the deep blue water and the vibrant red rocks is truly stunning.

This beach can be a bit tricky to get to since you have to walk down a long path from the road, but it's well worth it. Be sure to wear good shoes since the terrain can be a bit uneven.

Once you're down at the beach, there are plenty of sun loungers and parasols, as well as a few restaurants and bars. The water is clean and clear, perfect for swimming, snorkelling, or just floating around. Plus, the otherworldly look of this beach makes it the ideal place to get those all-important selfies and beach photos to make everyone back home jealous of your Greek beach vacation.

White Beach

Located on the southern tip of Santorini, White Beach gets its name from the white cliffs that surround it. It's a bit of a hike to get down to the beach, but the views are well worth it. Plus, there are donkeys available to give you a ride if you don't want to walk.

This beach is much quieter than some of the others on the island and is perfect for those who want to enjoy nature and escape the crowds. There are no sun loungers or parasols, but there are a few restaurants and cafes if you need refreshments.

So if you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Santorini, this is the beach for you.

Vourvolos

If you want to enjoy a more traditional Greek beach experience, Vourvolos is the place to go. This long stretch of sand is located on the north coast of the island and is popular with both locals and tourists.

There are plenty of sun loungers and parasols, as well as a few restaurants, cafes, and bars. The water here is typical of the island, so it will beckon you to snorkel, swim, or float in it.

Plus, there are plenty of activities available such as windsurfing, jet skiing, and banana boat rides. So if you're looking for a fun-filled day at the beach, Vourvolos is the place to be.

Eros

Located on the east coast of Santorini, Eros Beach is a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and just relaxing. The water here is clean and clear, making it perfect for a refreshing swim.

There are also plenty of sun loungers and parasols, as well as a few restaurants and cafes if you don’t want to bring your own meals and snacks. With its laid-back atmosphere, this beach is perfect if you just want to relax. And the stunning cliffs make a dramatic backdrop to a lovely beach day.

Conclusion

Santorini has so many beaches that you’ll probably never get to them all. And despite the small size of the island, each beach has its own special charm. Whether you're looking for a big beach full of fun activities and nightlife or one that's more secluded and wild, you'll find it at one of these spectacular locations.
